The Latin II classes at IHS are holding their Roman Cenae (Roman dinner parties) this week in Kim Peters’ room. Students organized menus for typical Roman banquets, including the gustatio (appetizer course), prima mensa (entrees), and secunda mensa (desserts).
Students then chose one of their menu offerings to prepare for the class cena, providing the recipe as the Ancient Romans would have prepared the dish and their contemporary revisions to account for modern-day ingredients.
Students have arrived at some clever adaptations for such delicacies as dormice and roasted lion. The cena assignment comprises the honors portfolio assignment for this quarter in Latin II.
