Praise Pickers Are (P3) Praying, Picking and Praising In Song

Have you noticed that in our area there is a movement occurring? A grass roots movement being led by the sounds of banjos, mandolins, guitars, fiddles, percussion and vocal harmonies. A movement rooted in song that is capturing the attention of many in and around our community.  We as Americans find ourselves in an ever changing world filled with smart phones, fast food, and growing time demands from our families and jobs.

Fewer and fewer minutes of each day are set aside by each of us to spend with friends, family and community supporting one another, sharing with one another and caring for one another. That’s what makes this movement so timely. It doesn’t take long to recognize when a small gospel band with a country/bluegrass feel from Thompson’s Station strikes the first chords of one of their songs, the world seems to slow down and life becomes transparent if only in the moment.

What began as a simple music ministry for the elderly in Spring Hill has quickly become a passion for sharing with an entire community the love of traditional gospel music for 7 local residents of a newly formed gospel group called Praise Pickers. In February 2012 a group of men spanning 4 different decades came together united in one purpose to share the love of traditional gospel country / bluegrass music with others. “This music moves people in ways I have never witnessed before in my life, their genuine enthusiasm and joy is gratifying to me on so many levels”, says Justin Forton the bands mandolin player.

Since playing their first gig for residents at Willow Springs in Spring Hill, demand has grown for bookings at local churches, community events, and fundraisers. They were even invited to play The Tennessee State Fair this past summer. They have been featured on WAKM radio in Franklin on Sunday mornings and recently released their first CD Praise Pickers (Isaiah 38:20). This CD is comprised if traditional gospel favorites like I’ll fly Away and In the Garden. But the Praise Pickers also include many other songs on their debut CD that are sure to make you sing, clap and smile. “We are (P3) Praying, Picking and Praising in Song” say Praise Pickers.

Praise Pickers are made up of 7 members from our local community spanning 4 different decades. The band members include Lee Rose (Thompson’s Station), Justin Forton (Spring Hill), John Riley (Franklin), Leon Waller (Franklin), Charlie Haffner (Franklin), Price Johnson (Bethesda) and Jessie Crawford (Bethesda).

“It is a blessing to be part of a group of men focused on selflessness and ministering to others in song in such a variety of public venues. I am thankful to live in a community the embraces playing songs that publicly proclaim faith in God in this day and time when so many are in need.” stated Lee Rose the bands lead singer.

The Praise Pickers are next playing November 5th at Jones Chapel Church of The Nazarene Revival. To learn more about Praise Pickers events, hear and purchase their music or schedule them for your next event go to their website www.praisepickers.com or find them on Facebook here.
