Ongoing Adult Art Classes Offered At The Longview Recreation Center

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will offer arts and crafts classes for teens and adults in November at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. All classes require pre-registration and space may be limited. For information about activities at Longview, call (615)302-0971, ext. 10 or view the monthly newsletter at www.wcparksandrec.com. You may also receive department information by “liking” us on Facebook. The Longview Recreation Center is a public facility, here to benefit the community. Anyone, including out-of-county residents, can register for and participate in classes and events held at Longview, even if you don’t have a facility pass!

PINTEREST PARTY

Turn viral ideas into reality at a Pinterest Party. During this Pinterest party class, participants will have the choice of a craft: T-shirt scarf or a decorated candle. Each participant will go home with a completed project. This class will meet Friday, November 9 from 12-1:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. MAGIC OF FLOWERS-WATERCOLOR PAINTING WORKSHOP

Leaves are falling and autumn flowers are ready for the picking. In this class participants will learn to capture the detail of live flowers using simple watercolor techniques. No experience necessary. This class will meet Saturday, November 10 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. WEDDING PLANNING

He popped the question… you said yes! …Now what? A lot of planning goes into making a wedding happen, and what better way to relieve some of the pressure than talking with a Wedding Planner? Bring in your wedding planning book and any ideas you have and Wedding Planner Meropi Falkenburg will get you on the right path! This class will meet Sunday, November 11 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $10. MANGA DRAWING

Discover the world of Manga! In this class, students are introduced to basic drawing techniques to create wonderful illustrations of Manga”Japanese: style comics, from girl and boy teen characters to the popular Chibis! Students develop the basic drawing principles of line, shape, form, texture, expression and body language. This class will meet Tuesday and Thursday, November 6 and 8 or Tuesday and Thursday, November 13 and 15 from 4:15-5:45 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. DEB’Z ADULT’Z ART

We all have a project list at home, full of fun ideas for paintings which never seem to get done. Bring your inspiration to class and Deb can help you complete your painting project. Choose from two classes either Tuesday, November 13 or 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The fee is $15 per class, and the supply fee is $5 (payable to the instructor). COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS-ORNAMENT WREATH

Get your Christmas projects done early this year! In this class, teen and adult students will make a holiday wreath made out of ornaments. The class will meet on Saturday, November 17 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $5, and the supply fee is $25. “WET ON WET” OIL WORKSHOP WITH SHIRLEY BARKER

Participants will paint a beautiful, imaginative “wet on wet” oil landscape in the famous tradition of tranquil trees, peaceful landscapes and beauty – all in one workshop! Whether you are a beginner or just looking to brush up on your skills this is the workshop for you! You will discover the unique painting method of wet-on-wet and fat-on-lean technique of layering oils. Each student will walk out with a completed 16×20 painting! Space is limited and pre-registration is requested. Students should bring a sack lunch. The class will meet on Saturday, November 17 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. LEARN TO DRAW WHAT YOU SEE

If you always wanted to draw, but believed you didn’t have the talent, then this is the class for you! Learning to draw is simply a matter of training the brain how to apply the functions it uses for other simple tasks to the specific task of drawing. This class is for the beginner as well as the advanced, who just want to brush up on their skills. Class meets Monday, November 19 or 30 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. DEB’Z CLAY CREATIONZ

Join Miss Deb to learn how to make small clay creatures and jewelry out of sculpey polymer clay! No experience is needed. This class for teens and adults will meet on Tuesday, November 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. LEATHER WORK WORKSHOP

Students in this class will learn how to create interesting leather designs and make their own billfold, belt, key ring stick barrette and wristband. Learn how to design, dye and punch the leather to make these unique items. No experience necessary. This class for teens and adults will meet Monday, November 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. ENJOY CAKE DECORATING-INTRODUCTION TO ROLLED FONDANT

In this introductory class, students learn how to handle and tint fondant as well as cover a cake and add simple fondant decorations to it. This class will meet on Tuesday, November 27 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. LONGVIEW JUDO/KARATE

Join Instructor Richard Javitt’s martial arts program; a combination of Judo and Karate. Great for exercise, confidence and self defense. This class for ages 8 and older will meet on Mondays, November 5-26 (skip 11/12)  from 5:15-6:15 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. MARTIAL ARTS FITNESS

This class combines the elements of Kick Boxing, Karate, judo and the sword to develop fitness, increased flexibility, coordination and lifelong wellness. All levels of fitness are welcome. This class for ages 8 and older will be held on Mondays, November 5-26 (skip 11/12) from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. TAI CHI

A 6-week session will introduce participants to an ancient Chinese healing art and exercise. Tai Chi Chuan is a method of exercise and breathing which helps achieve a state of relaxation and healthy immune system. This form of exercise improves muscle tone, balance and flexibility. Millions of people worldwide practice Tai Chi each day which makes it one of the most popular forms of exercise. This class will meet on Tuesdays, November 6- December 11 from 11-11:45 a.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $72. POLYNESIAN DANCING

Learn to dance like the natives of Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand and Tahiti in this fun 4-week class of Polynesian dancing. Instructor Chris Hendrickson uses these dance representations as a form of both exercise and education. Adults and teens are welcome in the class which will meet on Wednesdays, November 7-28 (skip 11/21) with a beginner class from 5:15-6 p.m. and an intermediate class from 6-7 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. AMERICAN RED CROSS BABYSITTER’S TRAINING
This class will give participants, ages 11-15, the skills and confidence they need to become great babysitters. This course covers training in care-giving, decision making, safety and first aid skills, plus preventing and responding to emergencies. Pre-registration with the instructor is required. This class will meet on Saturday, November 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Participants should bring a sack lunch to class.
