Macy’s Department Store offered to give $1 to Make A Wish Foundation for every letter written to Santa for their “Believe” campaign. The Spring Hill Police Department placed a “Letters to Santa” box at the Police Department and notified the Community to bring letters for Santa. On December 7th, 2012, Officer Mary Beth Lovett picked up the letters to deliver to Macy’s.
We received one letter that stood out and touched our hearts the most. This letter was written by a young girl named Megan. Megan selflessly asked Santa to help her neighbor, Caroline, who is very sick.
There was no way to know the identity of Caroline or Megan. Megan only mentioned in her letter that they lived on Buckner Lane. Officer Lovett was able to put her investigative skills to work and located a flyer, for a fundraiser, about a 10 year old girl named Caroline. With this information, Officer Lovett was able to access Caroline’s website at www.carolinedarden.com.
Officer Lovett learned through the website that Caroline was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer. At this point, Officer Lovett realized that Caroline’s father, Chester Darden is associated with the City through Tennessee Municipal League.
Officer Lovett began telling other employees about this heartfelt letter and Caroline’s story and while speaking with an employee, she was able to ascertain who Megan was and make contact with her mother, Crystal.
Crystal stated to Officer Lovett that she asked her children to write a letter to Santa for Make A Wish Foundation.
Since Megan is only 6 years old, Crystal had to explain to her how Make A Wish helps children who are sick, like their neighbor Caroline, by granting them a wish.
She explained that Macy’s would give money to Make A Wish for every letter to Santa that they received. Megan then wrote a letter to Santa asking him to help Caroline.
Officer Lovett put in a call to the North Pole for Santa. After hearing the story, Santa decided to take time out of his busy schedule to pay a personal visit to Caroline, Megan and their families on December 22, 2012 at 8:00 am. Anyone wishing to see Santa and his motorcade, he be leaving Spring Hill Police Department at approximately 7:45 am and traveling Duplex Road to Buckner Lane through Burtonwood and Haynes Crossing Subdivisions.
