Ongoing Classes For Teens And Adults At The Longview Recreation Center At Spring Hill

TEEN FITNESS SURVIVOR

Williamson County Parks and Recreation DepartmentBe a “Fitness Survivor” in Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s new Teen fitness program at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Teens can participate by logging their miles to earn great prizes! Prizes will be awarded for: First 10 teens to log 15 miles, first 5 teens to log 45 miles, first 5 teens to log 85 miles and first 3 teens to log 150 miles. Registration is going on now. Forms are available at the front desk at Longview. All miles may be logged in the Wellness Center using the Elliptical Trainers, Treadmills, Upright Bikes and Rowing Machines (Must be 13 years of age to use the wellness center to log your miles), or by using the indoor walking track. FIT TEENS

In this FREE session, teens ages 13-18 years will learn how to better take care of your body and the right way eat and to work out. In the first session titled: Heart of the matter – you will learn the importance of the heart, about your heart rate and monitoring your heart rate during exercise. The instructors are Donna Leedle and Amy Lively. This class will meet on Tuesdays, through February 26 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. BEGINNING or ADVANCED VOICE

In this session, learn vocal technique, correct pitch issues, overcome stage fright, improve stage presence and learn to connect to a song emotionally. This class for ages 8 years to adult will meet on Thursdays, through February 28 in 30 minute time slots from 4-7 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. These are private lessons. Students need to bring a notebook and a CD of a song they want to start with or have the music on some other electronic device; all styles of music are welcome. DJ’N 101 CLASS

In this class you will learn the fundamentals of how to DJ. Learn the basic functions and fundamentals, song transition, picking the next song, what songs to mix together and how to cater to the crowd. As a more advanced technique you will eventually learn how to scratch records. The instructor is DJ Terrence Lening. This class for ages 11-15 will meet Friday, February 1 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $10 per person. BEAUTIFUL MAKEUP AND SKIN CARE TECHNIQUES-ADULTS

This class is an introduction on how to take care of your skin and how to treat problematic skin and prevent breakouts. Then, participants will learn how to apply makeup using the current trends. Tips will be provided on topics such as applying concealer, eyeliner and eye shadow. Please bring your own brushes. This class will meet on Tuesday, February 5 from 7-9 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $20, and the supply fee is $7. TEEN PAINT N PARTY

This class can be fun and easy or as challenging as you would like it to be. Participants in this class will leave with a finished project. Bring a group of friends and make it a fun afternoon. POLYNESIAN DANCING

Learn to dance like the natives of Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand and Tahiti in this fun 4-week class of Polynesian dancing. Instructor Chris Hendrickson uses these dance representations as a form of both exercise and education. Adults and teens are welcome in the class which will meet on Wednesdays, February 6-27 with a beginner class from 5:15-6 p.m. and an intermediate class from 6-7 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. AMERICAN RED CROSS BABYSITTER’S TRAINING

This class will give participants, ages 11-15, the skills and confidence they need to become great babysitters. This course covers training in care-giving, decision making, safety and first aid skills, plus preventing and responding to emergencies. Pre-registration with the instructor is required. This class will meet on Saturday, February 9 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Participants should bring a sack lunch to class. YOUTH CONDITIONING PROGRAM

Williamson County Parks and Recreation will offer a Youth Conditioning Program at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The program is designed to help participants, kindergarten through high school seniors, develop and maintain speed, agility and quickness. This can be done through the use of speed drills, proper form and mechanics, ladders, cones and bands. Whether an individual is just starting out or training between seasons they are sure to sharpen game day skills or gain a competitive edge. Clinics for ages 6-18 years will be held on Saturdays, ongoing in 45 minute increments from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. LONGVIEW JUDO/KARATE

Join Instructor Richard Javitt’s martial arts program; a combination of Judo and Karate. Great for exercise, confidence and self-defense. Discover the world of Manga! In this class, students are introduced to basic drawing techniques to create wonderful illustrations of Manga” Japanese” style comics, from girl and boy teen characters to the popular Chibis! Students develop the basic drawing principles of line, shape, form, texture, expression and body language. STICKY FINGERS PRESCHOOL CLUB

The “Sticky Fingers Preschool Club” is a wonderful program for children ages 3-6 at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. “Sticky Fingers” is a fun place to explore a variety of crafting experiences.  A different theme, with coordinating activities using letters, shapes, numbers and colors will be offered each month. Sticky Fingers provides your child with a creative supplement to preschool by enhancing fine motor and developmental skills necessary to begin school. Sticky Fingers will be held on Tuesdays, February 5-26 from 8:30 –10 a.m. The cost for the 4-week class is $24. Wednesday classes will meet February 6-27 from 9 –10:30 a.m. or 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost for this 4-week class is $24. Registration is required, and space is limited. LITTLE FINGERS

This creative arts program is for children ages 2-4 along with a parent. This special time together will be a chance to make some very fun, season-themed projects! Parents and guardians will need to fully assist their children.  This class will meet Tuesdays, February 5-26 from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. DEB’Z DOODLEZ

In this on-going fun-filled class, participants create a practice drawing using basic shapes. Then they build on by using a variety of methods including markers, colored pencils, pastels and watercolors to create a work of art! Deb’z Kid’z Art will meet on Thursdays, February 7-28 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $40 per month. The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer themed birthday parties for children. If you are looking for an affordable, fresh place to celebrate your child’s birthday, look no further! Boys and girls ages 3-12 can celebrate the big day with an arts and crafts party at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Schedule your child’s birthday party today! Parents can develop a theme with the instructor that truly fits their child’s personality and interests. The class fee is $5 per child, and the supply fee is $20 for 10 children. A fee of $20 per 10 children is for craft supplies. The parent may provide any food (cupcakes/cake), drink and/or paper goods. Optional coordinating party supplies and additional crafts are available for an extra supply fee. Parties are available any day and party length varies based on room availability. “WET ON WET” OIL WORKSHOP WITH SHIRLEY BARKER

Participants will paint a beautiful, imaginative “wet on wet” oil landscape in the famous tradition of tranquil trees, peaceful landscapes and beauty – all in one workshop! Whether you are a beginner or just looking to brush up on your skills this is the workshop for you! You will discover the unique painting method of wet-on-wet and fat-on-lean technique of layering oils. Each student will walk out with a completed 16×20 painting! Students in this class will learn how to create interesting leather designs while they make a name belt, wristband and key ring and wristband. Learn how to design, dye and punch the leather to make these unique items. No experience necessary. MAGIC OF FLOWERS-WATERCOLOR PAINTING WORKSHOP
