Spring Station Middle School has another championship banner to hang up this year. The varsity boys basketball team pulled off a stunning upset to win the first basketball county championship in Spring Station’s short history!
The Mustangs beat a Page team that had previously won 19 straight games and were undefeated going into the tournament. It was a thrilling game where the Mustangs led most of the way, but only by a slim margin. John Carter hit a huge 3-pointer in the 4th quarter to put the Mustangs up by 7 and it was immediately followed by a steal and layup by little brother Tai Carter, to give the Mustangs a 9-point lead with 4 minutes to play. The Page Panthers had won 19 straight for a reason and they battled back, relentlessly cutting the lead to 3 with a minute to play.
Huge free throws by Jaden Lewis and John Carter in the last minute allowed the Mustangs to hold on to a one point win and the 2013 WMAA basketball championship! Congrats to the team and a huge shout out to Mustang Nation for showing up big! The fans definitely made a difference!
