Cash Mob Comes to Spring-Station to Support Local Businesses

[ 0 ] May 3, 2013 |

CASH MOB LOGOSee a need, do something about it is how local mover and shaker Beth York operates. She has recently started a grassroots effort to generate support for our local business scene by organizing a Spring/Station Cash Mob.

What is a Cash Mob? “A cash mob is a group of people who assemble at a local business to make purchases. The purpose of these mobs is to support both the local businesses and the overall community. They may also serve a secondary purpose in providing social opportunities.”

The way it works is you join the Facebook group and they take a poll to vote on a different business each week to selected to be mobbed. Members vote on who they would like to ‘Mob’ for the upcoming week. Once that week’s business is determined, members are then asked to go and purchase something at the business and come back on the page to let others know they were there and even post photos and share about there experience.

Local businesses who have been mobbed already say they saw an increase in their business and sales for the week!

This initiative is very powerful in help our local economy not only stay stable but grow. Research has shown:

  • Small local businesses are the largest employers nationally and create two out of every thee new jobs.
  • When dollars are spent locally, they can in turn be re-spent locally, raising the overall level of economic activity, paying more salaries, and building the local tax base.
  • Locally owned businesses contribute more to local charities and fundraisers than do their national counterparts.
  • Spending money with local retailers helps keep the local community alive. The places where we eat, shop, and have fun all have the potential to make a community feel like home.
  • Local economic growth will attract new talent and professionals, who may, in turn, create businesses of their own, enhancing a local economy.

Spring/Station Cash Mob also has categorized business types to address the different ways business function such as Local Services/Crafts (not brick and mortar and not direct sales)and Direct Sales as well. They have also recently added the Weekly Cash Mob Spring Hill Deals.
