Spring Station Middle School has yet another championship banner to hang making a unprecedented total of 5 championships this year. The latest banner comes from the softball team. The Lady Mustangs defeated Page, 9-1, Wednesday to become the county champions! The Lady Mustangs started out hot with Shelby Penning hitting the first pitch hard down the 3rd baseline for a double. The girls ended up scoring 7 runs in the top of the first inning!
Amber Wright was on base all 3 attempts as was Alyvia Kincaid who also added 3 RBIs. Kaitlyn Woodside was 2-3 and Taylor Turner added 2 RBIs with a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly. Taylor Turner and Erin Elliott were the winning pitcher/catcher duo holding Page to just 3 hits in 5 innings of play. The win was a great team effort with every player in the lineup either scoring a run or hitting an RBI. Girls chosen for the all-tournament team were Alyvia Kincaid, Amber Wright and Taylor Turner.
The softball team defeated Brentwood Middle last Tuesday, 10-5, to earn themselves a spot in the championship game versus Page. Taylor Turner was the winning pitcher and was also 3-3 in the contest with 4 RBIs. Olivia Jordan also had a big day going 3-4 with a triple and scoring 3 runs and Kaitlyn Woodside was on base all three times, one of which was a triple. Amber Wright, Alyvia Kincaid, and Maury Wittekind were all on base twice adding to the offensive production.
The other championship banners came from football, girls tennis, girls soccer and boys basketball. The Spring Station Mustangs have had on outstanding athletic year!
