Ongoing Children’s Art Classes At Longview Recreation Center Spring Hill

Williamson County Parks and Recreation DepartmentThe Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a variety of ongoing arts and crafts classes for children in July at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Classes require pre-registration and space may be limited. You may also receive department information by “liking” us on Facebook. The Longview Recreation Center is a public facility, here to benefit the community. Anyone, including out-of-county residents, can register for and participate in classes and events held at Longview, even if you don’t have a facility pass!

DEB’Z DOODLEZ

In this on-going fun-filled class for all ages, participants create a practice drawing using basic shapes. Then they build on by using a variety of methods including markers, colored pencils, pastels and watercolors to create a work of art! Deb’z Doodle’z will meet on Thursdays, July 11-25 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The 3-week class is $30. MANGA DRAWING

Discover the world of Manga! In this class, students ages 8 and up are introduced to basic drawing techniques to create wonderful illustrations of Manga” Japanese” style comics, from girl and boy teen characters to the popular Chibis! Students develop the basic drawing principles of line, shape, form, texture, expression and body language. This class will meet Tuesday and Thursday, July 29 and 31 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $25, and the supply fee is $5. CREATE A CLASS

Love art, but can’t make it to a class? The Staff at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill can help guide you through a class designed by you. Gather at least 4 children and pick your project. All classes are available for your private class from cake decorating or pottery to drawing, painting or crochet. Call Lauren Nichols at (615)302-0971, ext. 2225. The Longview staff can also help you arrange a custom-made event or party for groups of children or adults at Longview.

ENJOY CAKE DECORATING-PARTIES

Celebrating an upcoming birthday and looking for a fun, unique party? Schedule a cake decorating party!  After a brief demonstration of some basic techniques, each party guest will get their own small cake to decorate and take home. This party is available to parties with 4-12 guests in attendance. All supplies, set-up and clean-up are included. Each party will be 2 hours long and will be held at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. CELEBRATE! ARTS AND CRAFTS BIRTHDAY PARTIES

Boys and girls ages 3-12 can celebrate the big day with an arts and crafts party at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Schedule your child’s birthday party today! Parents can develop a theme with the instructor that truly fits their child’s personality and interests. The class fee is $5 per child, and the supply fee is $20 for 10 children. A fee of $20 per 10 children is for craft supplies. The parent may provide any food (cupcakes/cake), drink and/or paper goods. Optional coordinating party supplies and additional crafts are available for an extra supply fee. Parties are available any day and party length varies based on room availability. The instructor is Deborah Nelson. LONGVIEW JUDO/KARATE

Join Instructor Richard Javitt’s martial arts program; a combination of Judo and Karate. Great for exercise, confidence and self-defense. This class for ages 8 and older will meet on Mondays, July 8-29 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $40 per person. POLYNESIAN DANCING

Learn to dance like the natives of Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand and Tahiti in this fun 4-week class of Polynesian dancing. Instructor Chris Hendrickson uses these dance representations as a form of both exercise and education. Adults and teens are welcome in the class which will meet on Wednesdays, July 3-24 with a beginner class from 5:15-6 p.m. and an intermediate class from 6-7 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. AMERICAN RED CROSS BABYSITTER’S TRAINING
This class will give participants, ages 11-15, the skills and confidence they need to become great babysitters. This course covers training in care-giving, decision making, safety and first aid skills, plus preventing and responding to emergencies. Pre-registration with the instructor is required. This class will meet on Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Participants should bring a sack lunch to class. BRAIN BUILDERS LEGO® CITY
Build with LEGO® City block sets creating Police Station, Space Centre, Fire House, Airport and gold mine while learning to follow building directions. Then help make our own city complete by creating a Zoo, School, Playground and other things you find in the city from your creative imagination. This class for ages 5-10 years old will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 30- and 31 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. BRAIN BUILDERS LEGO® ROBOTICS CLASS 1
Build and program LEGO® Mindstorm NXT robots while learning how each of the sensors work. Design your own program using the NXT Brain and NXT software. Learn how to transfer data to the Brain. Upgrade your autonomous robot delivering good understanding of how all aspects of the Mindstorm system work. This class will build different robots from class 2. This class for ages 9 years and older will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 30- and 31 from 1-4 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill.
