Ongoing Classes For Teens And Adults At Longview Recreation Center Spring Hill

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer a variety of classes for teens and adults in July at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Classes require pre-registration and space may be limited. Anyone, including out-of-county residents, can register for and participate in classes and events held at Longview, even if you don’t have a facility pass!

LONGVIEW JUDO/KARATE

Join Instructor Richard Javitt’s martial arts program; a combination of Judo and Karate. Great for exercise, confidence and self-defense. This class for ages 8 and older will meet on Mondays, July 8-29 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $40 per person. POLYNESIAN DANCING

Learn to dance like the natives of Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand and Tahiti in this fun 4-week class of Polynesian dancing. Instructor Chris Hendrickson uses these dance representations as a form of both exercise and education. Adults and teens are welcome in the class which will meet on Wednesdays, July 3-24 with a beginner class from 5:15-6 p.m. and an intermediate class from 6-7 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $25 for the first family member and $20 for each additional family member. The supply fee is $5. To register, call (615)302-0971, ext. 2210.

PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS FOR EVERYONE
In this class you will learn what makes a photograph and what makes a snapshot. You will learn how to use the basic functions on your camera as well as discuss shutter speeds, composition, ISO aperture, camera equipment and photography software. This class for ages 14 years to adult will meet on Saturdays, July 13-August 3 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $40. AMERICAN RED CROSS BABYSITTER’S TRAINING
This class will give participants, ages 11-15, the skills and confidence they need to become great babysitters. This course covers training in care-giving, decision making, safety and first aid skills, plus preventing and responding to emergencies. Pre-registration with the instructor is required. This class will meet on Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Participants should bring a sack lunch to class. WRITING FOR MOVIES & TELEVISON
Students ages 15 years and older will learn the basics of story construction, character development, dialog and the application of professional standards of script formatting and presentation. Students may choose to originate an idea for a theatrical motion picture, an original television “pilot” episode, or an episode of an existing television series. Students will learn the value of giving and receiving input from other writers in a positive, creative atmosphere, led by a credited, Emmy-winning television and film writer. Students and invited others will participate in “table readings” and discussion of student work. This class meets Saturday, July 27 from 11-3 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive. The class fee is $40, and the instructor is George Yanok. DIGGING INTO YOUR FAMILY HISTORY
In this 6-week class participants will learn how to research family history, organize facts into a free database and notebook, and create a family heirloom. This class for adults will meet on Saturday, July 27 from 1-3 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill.  The class fee is $70, and the supply fee is $30.
