Enjoy Down Home Fun With World Class Entertainment!
Each year, Maury County Parks & Recreation, Friends of Maury County Parks, and dozens of community leaders present The Park After Dark, Maury County’s annual Fourth of July celebration! The Park After Dark is free and open to the public and is one of the largest FREE events in Maury County. The Park After Dark, 4th Of July Celebration will be held Thursday, July 4th In Maury County Park…rain or shine. The festivities will begin at 5:00pm when, well behaved dogs on leash, dressed in their finest “All American” style costume will compete for the title of “Maury County’s Most Patriotic Pet”! The nearly world famous “Water Melon Seed Spittin’ Contest” will start at 5:30. Participants will be judged on distance, accuracy, and style! Little Miss Firecracker will be crowned at 6:00pm. Contestants between the ages of five and ten will be judged on cuteness. Live Music will begin at 7:00pm and Fireworks start at 9:00.
Guest are welcome to bring a picnic basket, picnic blanket, and lawn chairs; however, please leave firecrackers, bottle rockets, sparklers and the grill at home. Each year several thousand people attend this event and fireworks, hot coals and ash are a safety concern, as is traffic.
Please plan to arrive early and stay late. We ask that you do not drive through the park or try to move your vehicle once the fireworks begin. Children and adults will be seated on the ground; standing in roadways; and not watching for cars and while dogs are invited to compete in the Patriotic Pet Contest we strongly urge guest to take their dogs home and secure them in your house before the fireworks begin.
Food vendors will be selling hotdogs, hamburgers, barbeque, homemade ice cream, soft drinks, funnel cakes and more at reasonable prices. Some vendors will offer kids size treats and meal deals.
Mark Gandee, Maury County Fire Chief said, “Safety, Safety, Safety! Leave the fireworks to the experts. Each year the 4th of July celebration ends in the emergency room for thousands of people. Come out to the park and have a good time without the danger, clean-up, or expense associated with fireworks at home.”
Musical performances this year will be presented by United, Smooth Vinyl, and this year we are proud to announce Grammy award winner, Billboard’s Artist of the Decade (1970-1980), and country music legend Lynn Anderson. In a career that spans over four decades, Anderson has scored 11 No. 1, 18 Top-10, and over 50 Top-40 hits, including “Rose Garden,” “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues” , “Keep Me in Mind” , and “Rocky Top”. We are very excited to have such a renowned artist perform for us in Maury County Park!
