If you missed last year’s Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at Old School Theatre, you are in luck. Spring Hill’s community theatre has decided to make it an annual event! Presented by Old School Theatre and GFWC Spring Station Woman’s Club, proceeds from tickets sold will also benefit the Center of Hope (formerly Hope House) which serves the Columbia, TN community as a domestic violence shelter and counseling center for women and children.

In this year’s murder mystery, a cast of nine local actors directed by Summit High School drama teacher Annie Rice, will perform To Have and to Haunt, a play written by local playwrights Wes Driver and Greg Greene. This is a scripted mystery play with moments of audience participation, so it would not be sensible to reveal the full plot (I mean, that’s why it’s called a Who Dunnit right?). However, just in case the audience would like to dress for the occasion, it can be revealed that the play takes place in the 1920’s, and through a series of confused conversations with people who may not really be there, a “talking” chicken, an awkward man dance, and an elf who lives in somebody’s shoe, a very old murder is solved. But not without a fun twist at the end!

Prepare to be taken back in time, entertained, and fed a delicious dinner on June 21, 22, 28 or 29 at 7pm. Dinner and dessert will be provided by MoeBetter BBQ. For more information about tickets, meal options, House of Hope, Old School Theatre or GFWC Spring Station Woman’s Club, please visit www.oldschooltheatre.org or call 931-486-3344. Tickets must be purchased one week prior to each performance date to allow MoeBetter to prepare the meals.

Sketch Bourque (yes, that is his real name) is the artist whose work is on display at the Spring Hill Library for the month of June.

He is a displaced native of Louisiana, and has been living in Tennessee for 7 years. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

His artwork is comprised of drawings, paintings, and sculptures, all of which are done in a variety of styles, which he hopes to be a “Cabinet of Curiosities.”

He has been commissioned to create art by individuals living in Tennessee, Louisiana, California, and even India.

His primary goal in life was to be a filmmaker but he enjoys concentrating on artwork because there is no outside interference during its creation. He says it is a supremely private endeavor.

Sketch will give a free art class on Monday, June 17, at 2 p.m. Enjoy a guided tour of his art on display throughout the library and learn easy step-by-step methods of drawing and using different mediums. You can sign up at the Library for an email reminder.

The Spring Hill Library features a different artist each month. For more information about the Spring Hill Public Library, go to www.springhilllibrary.org or call 931.486.2932.

“In previous years, we participated at the Marshall County Walk. Last year, the NICU nurses decided we would like to have our own walk here in Maury County and we were able to raise a little over $1,000 at that event,” said NICU Nurse Manager Trever Hawkins.

The nurses hope the new date and location for the NICU walk will encourage more people to participate with them.

MRMC Administrative Director for Women’s and Children’s Services Beth Himes said, “The entire perinatal health care team at MRMC values all the work the March of Dimes does for mothers in raising awareness, research and improving the quality outcomes to both mothers and newborns. Please come join us for this important walk this Saturday.”

Her son, Jake, was a patient in the NICU just over a year ago and will be the NICU team’s honorary ambassador at this year’s walk.

“As I reflected on the time spent in the NICU, I’m grateful every single day for the compassionate care Jake received from all the staff involved in his care here at Maury Regional and for organizations like the March of Dimes, whose research makes it possible to treat not only preemies but also other newborns or infants admitted to a NICU,” Roland said.

Money raised through the March of Dimes funds research and supports programs to eliminate problems that threaten the health of babies.
