Puckett’s & Nashville Rescue Mission Help Homeless Battle Heat

Restaurant to Donate Bottled Water To Homeless During Second “Mission H2O” Campaign

Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant in downtown Nashville is partnering with the Nashville Rescue Mission for the second “Mission H2O,” an initiative that aims to provide bottled water to the local homeless community during the month of August.

From August 1 to August 31, Puckett’s diners will have the option to add a donation of a dollar or more to the total of their bill. For each dollar, two bottled waters will be given to the Mission. In addition, the restaurant’s parent company, A. Marshall Family Foods Inc., will match the amount donated by its guests.

As a result of last year’s campaign, more than 10,000 water bottles, supplied by Kimbro Water Company, were donated to the Mission in the month of August alone. This year, Puckett’s hopes to increase this number to 15,000 bottles.

“We feel so lucky to be able to team up again with Kimbro Water Company to provide this service to the Nashville Rescue Mission this August,” said Rachel Layton, director of marketing and communications for A. Marshall Family Foods Inc. “Last year, we were able to deliver over 10,000 bottles directly to the Rescue Mission, so the impact of Mission H2O was felt immediately around Nashville. Seeing our community come together to help one another was truly special. Andy [Marshall] even said that it was the highlight of his year.”

Kimbro sources and packages the water bottles locally in Pall Mall, Tenn.

“We feel very strongly about Mission H2O, and we want to help Puckett’s impact the community in a big way,” Matthew Neary, sales representative for Kimbro Water Company, said.

August is often the hottest month of the year in Music City, according to U.S. Climate Data — which is why the Mission accelerates its efforts to keep homeless members of the Nashville community healthy and hydrated. When temperatures exceed 90 degrees, the Mission sends out “Hot Patrol” teams to ride around the city, handing out bottled waters and encouraging anyone without shelter to come back to their home base.

Cheryl Davis, senior director of development for the Nashville Rescue Mission, said Mission H2O was “an incredible blessing” to her organization last year.

“We don’t tend to think about the heat being as dangerous for the homeless community as the cold, but it is,” Davis said. “It’s not a stretch to say that generating this supply of water for the homeless community was life-saving. It’s heartening to know that a corporation like Puckett’s truly cares about the community, and that they would care enough to launch a campaign like this. We’re so grateful.”

The Nashville Rescue Mission is dedicated to helping the hungry and homeless, and offers programs that focus on spiritual growth, education, employment and life-recovery. The Mission aims to give members of the community hope for today, hope for tomorrow, and hope for eternity.

Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant, located at 5th Avenue & Church Street, is open Sunday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
