Non-profit regional blood center Blood Assurance will host a battle blood drive starting June 1 through June 30 between local public safety departments in Maury County. Community members are invited to donate blood on behalf of any participating public safety department at the Blood Assurance Columbia donor center located in the Neely’s Mill shopping center at 1412 Trotwood Ave, Suite 69, Columbia, Tenn. 38401.
This inaugural “Public Safety Challenge” blood drive is an effort to kick off the summer season by giving the gift of life to local patients in need of blood donations while showing support for community members who serve in public safety departments.
“We’re looking forward to this blood drive becoming an annual event in Maury County to help generate enthusiasm for our local public safety heroes and bring attention to the constant need for lifesaving blood donations each summer,” said Jack Cobb, Blood Assurance community liaison. “We encourage the community to come out in support of our local officers, fire fighters and emergency medical services employees. Just one donation can save up to three lives of our local friends and neighbors in need.”
The public safety teams competing in this drive include the Columbia Fire Department, the Columbia Police Department, the Maury Regional EMS Department, the Maury County Fire Department, the Maury County Sheriff Department, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department, the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Spring Hill Fire Department and the Spring Hill Police Department.
All blood drive participants must specify which team their blood donation supports, and the top three teams will be awarded by having their department’s names engraved on a plaque that will be displayed at the Neely’s Mill Blood Assurance center in Columbia. Additionally, Puckett’s will provide an entree to each member on the winning team, a desert or appetizer to the second place team, and a desert to all third place team members. All donors will receive complimentary refreshments and the June Blood Assurance t-shirt as a thank-you for donating.
