Battle of New Orleans
Enjoy FREE admission to The Hermitage as we commemorate The Battle of New Orleans, a crucial American victory during the War of 1812 and the event that catapulted General Andrew Jackson to national fame and recognition.
Guests will enjoy access to the museum, historic buildings, and grounds as well as special programs scheduled throughout the day. At 11 am, all guests are invited to gather at the president’s tomb for our annual wreath-laying ceremony featuring the Tennessee National Guard. Complimentary hot cocoa and cookies will be served following the ceremony.
At 1:30 pm in the Theatre, Mr. Tony Turnbow of the Natchez Trace Parkway Association will present “Facing Down the Firing Squad and Becoming Old Hickory,” featuring research from his book Hardened to Hickory: The Missing Chapter in Andrew Jackson’s Life. The program will be followed by a book signing from 2:30-3:30 pm in the Museum Store.
From 10 am – 4 pm, guests can stop by the Museum and speak to militia and regular soldiers who will share stories of daily life as they served under General Jackson’s command. Bring your kids and enjoy 19th-century games and activities inside our Education Building.
