Event Description

A six-week sewing class for teens that covers sewing basics through fun and simple projects. Learn how to set up a sewing machine, read pattern instructions, layout fabric, how to cut, measure, press, pin, and other important sewing techniques.
This class is for beginners ages 12 – 18. Registration and 6-week commitment are required. Limited class size. You will need to bring your own sewing machine.
Each class will have a theme and a project. In the first class … basic supplies for a sewing kit will be discussed and a supplies list sent home.
Materials needed will include scissors, pins & cushions, measuring tape, measure gage, needle, seam ripper, fabric pen, etc.
Please do not purchase these materials before the first class. The type and style of materials will be discussed and shown. Learning about the best tools to assist on the journey of becoming a competent seamstress is important! For the sewing projects to be completed fabric, thread, and notions will be required.
The amount and type of fabric will be discussed as well as specific measurements, the type of thread, and the notions, i.e. zippers, buttons, and elastic. Again, please do not buy these materials until the supplies list has been sent home and the student has all the information needed to make the correct purchases. If materials are purchased new the cost estimate is $50.
Sewing machines are not provided. If you would like to participate and don’t have a machine or can’t get the supplies, contact Jessica Gray: jgray@springhilltn.org.
