Supporting Young Grievers in the Clinical Setting

Event Description
Youth are often referred to as the “forgotten mourners.” Myths about grief, coupled with a lack of knowledge about how a young person understands death can make it difficult to navigate grief successfully in the clinical setting. Join us as we explore developmental and familial factors that are at play when a child or teen grieves. Participants will learn expressive arts and directive play therapy activities appropriate for for use in individual and group counseling settings.
4.5 Hours of Continuing Education. This workshop is approved by the TN Board of Professional Counselors, Marital and Family Therapists, and Clinical Pastoral Therapists.
Objectives:

Understand how children and adolescents react to loss from a developmental perspective

Explore the impact of early loss on adulthood

Understand the complexity of traumatic loss (suicide, homicide)

Learn over 5 easy and affordable therapeutic interventions to use with children and adolescents

Discover new resources that can assist grieving youth
