Event Description

SWA Basketball is a recreational youth basketball league with teams for both boys and girls from ages 5 through 15 and operates under the guidance of the Williamson County Parks and Recreation (WCPR) countywide youth basketball leagues.

SWA Basketball online registration opened on August 14, 2018 and will close September 28, 2018.  Late registration will only be accepted due to extenuating circumstances and will be charged a $50 LATE FEE.

Registration is available on the SWA Basketball Website

Important Season Information:

Rec Divisions

Traditional recreational divisions for boys and girls are offered in the following age groups:

  • 6 & Under (6U)
  • 8 & Under (8U)
  • 10 & Under (10U)
  • 12 & Under (12U)
  • 14 & Under (14U)

A player’s division qualification is based on his/her age on AUGUST 31, 2018!

Back by popular demand, teams can protect only two (2) players:  The child of the Head Coach and the child of the Assistant Coach.  If a Head Coach does not have a designated Assistant Coach, they may only protect their child but will pick before teams that have two (2) protected players.  The resulting draft order will be randomly and equitably established in an attempt to promote as much parity among teams as possible.

Unprotected rec players are required to participate in player assessments.  Here are the rec player assessment dates:

  • 6U – 10U Assessments – October 6th
  • 12U and 14U Assessments – October 7th

Practices and Games

Practices may be held at the following Spring Hill area schools:

  • Heritage Elementary
  • Chapman’s Retreat Elementary
  • Longview Elementary
  • Allendale Elementary
  • Spring Station Middle
  • Heritage Middle
  • Independence High
  • Summit High

Games will start on Saturday, December 1st.  Games will be played at various locations throughout Williamson County.

Rec teams are allowed one 1-hour practice during the week (Monday – Friday) throughout the entire season and an additional 1-hour practice during the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) when there are no games (November).  Once games begin (December 1st), teams are allowed only one 1-hour practice weekly.

Please note that there is a 20% chance your team could practice on Wednesday evenings.  It is unfortunate; however, to ensure all teams get fair practice times, we have to utilize Wednesday nights.  We just wanted to make everyone aware of the possibility prior to registering.

Practices are slated to begin the first week of November.  The regular season will conclude mid-February. An in-house SWA single elimination tournament will follow the conclusion of the regular season.  In-house tournament winners advance to the Williamson County Tournament.  This tournament starts immediately after the In-House Tournament (generally around the 3rd week of February) and concludes before the end of February.

Open “Competitive” League

In additional to the traditional recreational program, SWA also offers an Open “Competitive” League.  The Open League is intended to be a higher level of competition than the conventional rec program.  SWA Open teams will play Open teams within SWA as well as teams from other Williamson County Parks & Recreation (WCPR) associations.  If a player is notselected to an Open Team, he/she will then be placed into the rec program. We’re confident that WCPR will have enough participation to support 10U, 12U, and 14U Boys and 10U and 12U Girls teams during the 2018-2019 season.  Open league assessments/try-outs will be held on Sunday, September 30th.  Every player that aspires to play in the Open league must be registered prior to September 28th.  The maximum number of players on any SWA Open team will be 10!

A player’s division qualification is based on his/her age on AUGUST 31, 2018!

Coaching and Volunteering

Coaches are needed in each division.  The coach’s application can be found on the left side of the SWA Basketball Website.  Many additional volunteer opportunities are also available.  If you’re interested in learning about volunteer opportunities with SWA Basketball, please contact the league administrator Jennifer Pinckard @ Jennifer.Pinckard@swatn.org

A mandatory coaches meeting will be held on Sunday, October 27thfrom 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The head coach for each team is required to attend and the assistant coaches are encouraged to attend.

Player Fees

The player fees include/cover:

  • Quality reversible uniforms (jersey and shorts)
  • 8 regular season games
  • Post season tournament (except for 6U)

Special Requests

During the on-line registration process, there is a request/comment section.  We do our best to accommodate most requests, however, we cannot honor requests for team placement for a particular team or accommodate requests for children to play on the same team.  The draft system will be honored and upheld.
