Event Description

The City of Columbia, Parks and Recreation, is honoring our Veterans by hosting the Veteran’s “Living History” & Exhibit, at Macedonia Recreation Center.

The three-day event will take place November 8 – 10, from 9 – 6 PM. The theme this year is The Military Oath to Protect the Constitution. Our founding documents will be the focus of the display: Mayflower Compact; Declaration of Independence; U.S. Constitution, and the original Bill of Rights. There will be historic posters depicting America’s journey to Independence, which led to the signing of the Constitution, and military posters spanning several wars and highlighting the faithful service Veterans have performed in the face of overwhelming odds.

Veterans will have their own personal displays with pictures and a description of their service. They will be present to tell their stories to anyone who asks or answer questions about their service and love for our nation. This creates a “Living History” for the public to glean from. The National Guard will be in full uniform with a Humvee and a weapons display. This is a FREE event that not only honors our Veterans but is educational for adults and children.
