Marshall Family Foods Inc. Sets Grand Opening of Ice Cream Shop for July 13
The ever-growing A. Marshall Family Foods Inc. will mark the grand opening of its latest concept, Hattie Jane’s Creamery, on Wednesday, July 13 at 1:30 p.m. The launch of the artisan ice cream shop, which opened to the public over the Fourth of July weekend, comes on the heels of the June opening of Scout’s Pub, a modern pub in Westhaven under the same family-owned group of restaurants.
Downtown Columbia boasts the first of two Hattie Jane’s Creameries slated to open this year, the second currently under construction alongside the Puckett’s Gro. in Murfreesboro.
“It has been an exciting and busy summer for the company,” Claire Marshall Crowell, chief operating officer of A. Marshall Family Foods Inc. and co-owner of Hattie Jane’s, said. “We are always planning our next project, and Hattie Jane’s is completely different from what we’ve done so far. Ice cream is my family’s favorite dessert, and to open two stores named after my daughter and be able to share that love with other people is really fun and special for us.”
The community is invited to attend the July 13 ribbon cutting and grand opening, which will be followed by an opportunity to meet Hattie Jane’s staff and order from the menu of carefully-selected flavors that will rotate consistently based on availability of local and seasonal ingredients. The ice cream, in addition to waffle cones, hot fudge and caramel syrups, and fresh-baked cookies, will be produced on-site, in batches that are small by design to ensure the highest quality.
Initial menu offerings include nana puddin’ and roasted peach cobbler ice creams as well as classic flavors with a twist such as chocoholic and Tahitian vanilla. All flavors are made using local Hatcher Dairy cream and milk, with the exception of toasty coconut, which is dairy and egg-free. Harvest at Homestead Manor, A. Marshall Family Foods Inc.’s farm-to-table concept in Thompson’s Station, will at first be the only other restaurant that offers ice cream from Hattie Jane’s on its menu, although it will eventually be available at all Puckett’s Gro. restaurants, too.
Located next to the Puckett’s Gro. on the downtown Columbia square, Hattie Jane’s Creamery has hired Lokelani Alabanza as Executive Pastry Chef for the ice creamery and Harvest at Homestead Manor.ξ Alabanza previously served as Executive Pastry Chef at 1808 Grille in Nashville’s Hutton Hotel and will take point on curating local ingredients to create unique and refined ice cream flavors to feature at Hattie Jane’s and at Harvest.
“The theme of Hattie Jane’s so far has been to do something different,’ and Lokelani is no exception,” Crowell said. “She has the pastry chef background and expertise we were looking for, and she’s eager to put her talents to use more exclusively with ice cream. We’re happy that we have her on board to help her achieve her goals while at the same time propelling us toward ours.”
Hattie Jane’s Creamery will be open Sunday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. For more information on the ice creamery, visit hattiejanescreamery.com or facebook.com/HattieJanesCreamery.
