Spring Hill Manufacturing to Celebrate Manufacturing Day with Governor Haslam and STEM Students

General Motors plants across the nation are hosting local events as part of Manufacturing Day (MFG DAY). MFG DAY addresses common misconceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is —” and what it isn’t. The day aims to address the skilled labor shortages we face by connecting with future generations and to ensure the prosperity of the industry.

Spring Hill Manufacturing has partnered with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and the South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance to host a half-day manufacturing camp for 18 eighth graders from E.O. Coffman Middle School in Lawrenceburg. They are part of the —…Gateway to Technology’ program studying the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum. In this program students not only learn technical skills, but also learn to solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate, and collaborate through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

Governor Bill Haslam will be visiting the plant to meet with the students and to talk about the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education, and careers in advanced manufacturing in Tennessee. Media is invited to attend speaking remarks by Governor Haslam and to meet plant leadership at the Visitor’s Center starting at 10 a.m. CST.
