Spring Hill Police Department Sponsors ‘Shop with a Cop’ Program to Help Provide Christmas Gifts for Local Children from Disadvantaged Families
The Spring Hill Police Department has annually sponsored the ‘Giving Tree’ program here in the Spring Hill area which has helped provide Christmas gifts to hundreds of local elementary school children through the years who might not have gifts otherwise. They have served approximately 80 children each season with the help of the community, local businesses and civic organizations donating gifts and money.
This is the second year the SHPD are presenting the ‘Shop with a Cop’ program in an effort to help continue to ensure local children from disadvantaged families get Christmas gifts! This program is also a very effective way to create positive ties between the local children, SHPD and the community, all working together for the good of our local youth and families.
To kick off the ‘Shop with a Cop’ Program the Masonic Lodge of Spring Hill held a fundraising Fish Fry and all proceeds went to this program. In addition, SHPD has made special arrangements to have Santa as their guest at the Spring Station Middle School 5th Annual Holiday Marketplace on December 5th. For a small donation of $5.00 parents can take photos of their child with Santa as he gets their personal ‘want list’. Your support will be much appreciated.
About the ‘Shop with a Cop’ Program
The program offers a meaningful way to connect with youth as each officer takes the child he or she is matched with after a meet-and-greet for a ride in a marked police car to a local store, where the child gets a set amount of funds ($150 per child) to buy things for themselves as well as a siblings, parent or guardian. The SHPD Law Enforcement officers generously donate their time to take these children through the entire shopping experience.
Ways You Can Help
To ensure the experience is an enjoyable one for the youth, the SHPD is asking the community to attend the Spring Station Middle School 5th Annual Holiday Marketplace on December 5th and take photos with Santa for a $5 donation, help by donating gift cards (preferably the Visa or MasterCard you can purchase at stores) in any amount to be used when officers go shopping with the children. The program can accept cash or check donation made out to the Masonic Lodge of Spring Hill. Just make a notation the donation is for SHPD ‘Shop with a Cop’ Program and all monies will be provided for this event to SHPD. For more info contact Don Hover at donaldh1@charter.net.
