Restaurant Group Named one of America’s Fastest Growing Companies on Magazine’s Annual List
The company that began as a small local grocery store with a popular music scene has become a widely recognizable name in Middle Tennessee and a regular on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing private companies. Inc. magazine released its annual rankings this week, and A. Marshall Family Foods Inc., the family-owned restaurant group behind Puckett’s Grocery and a handful of other eateries and hospitality concepts, has once again claimed a spot.
Boasting a three-year sales growth of 598% against the list’s average of 433%, this is the third consecutive year that Inc. has recognized the company which is owned by Andy Marshall of Franklin, Tenn. Landing at #653 on the 2016 list, this is the highest ranking the company has earned thus far.
“We’ve always been deliberate with choosing the communities in which we root our businesses,” Marshall said. “We never had an aggressive plan for growth but as opportunities presented themselves we evaluated each on their own merits, and it’s really exciting to be in areas where we can do what we love, achieve our goals and also be recognized for it.”“We’ve always been deliberate with choosing the communities in which we root our businesses,” Marshall said.
With 516 employees, nearly 200 more than last year, A. Marshall is ranked in the country’s top 50 fastest growing companies in the food and beverage category, and fifth on the list of Tennessee businesses of all industries.
“The Inc. 5000 list stands out where it really counts,” said Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. “It honors real achievement by a founder or a team of them. No one makes the Inc. 5000 without building something great usually from scratch. That’s one of the hardest things to do in business, as every company founder knows. But without it, free enterprise fails.”
In addition to Puckett’s Groceries in Franklin, Nashville, Columbia and Chattanooga, Puckett’s Boat House and Puckett’s Trolley, A. Marshall Family Foods currently owns and operates three additional restaurants and hospitality concepts in the area. Homestead Manor, an antebellum property with its own restaurant, event venue and farm in Thompson’s Station, opened in 2015. Scout’s Pub in the Franklin community of Westhaven and Hattie Jane’s Creamery in downtown Columbia were opened in summer 2016, and a fifth Puckett’s Gro. and a second Hattie Jane’s Creamery are slated to open next to one another in Murfreesboro later this year.
Earlier this week, the company went public with plans to open a second restaurant in downtown Nashville, having signed a lease in a space that is located a block down from Puckett’s Gro. at 5th Avenue and Church Street in the arts and business district.
“Change and growth is especially exciting in this industry,” Marshall said. “There are always new ideas and new challenges and we love to take them head on. But even still, we hold true to who we are and who we came from, always careful to recognize that at the heart of our company is family and Southern hospitality — no matter how big we get.”
