Candidates running for mayor and alderman seats in the April 13, 2017, Spring Hill Municipal Election were allowed by ordinance to begin posting campaign signs starting Sunday, Feb. 12.
With the election officially underway, these are the general rules that candidates and citizens should follow when placing political campaign signs on their property, according to city ordinance:
1. Political signs are not allowed in public right-of-way. Signs should only be placed on private property.
2. Signs cannot exceed 16 square feet per sign.
3. One candidate cannot have more than six, 16-square-foot signs within the city. However, a candidate is allowed to have an unlimited number of small yard signs at his/her personal residence, unless it is prohibited by his/her subdivision restrictions.
4. No small yard sign should be larger than six square feet.
5. Such signs may be allowed up to 60 days prior to the election date, and must be removed within 24 hours after the polls close.
