If you’ve been to the Thompson’s Station Farmers Market, you no doubtfully have discovered Garcia Tamales! Their homemade tamales are such a hit, it’s no wonder people are asking them all the time if they are planning to open up their own place so their tamales are available all the time.
These amazing Mexican delights are handmade by the entire family using their own recipe for 4 varieties of tamales. They offer a Chicken Tomatillos, Pork with Red Sauce, Pork Mole and a Vegetarian Tamale, all gluten free as well as their amazing three roasted pepper salsa and horchata.ξ But the tamales are just one part of the Garcia story!
Carlos Garcia is a very accomplished Executive Chef who started his culinary journey at the age of 15 in Mexico. He also was a semi-pro soccer player and thought that might be the career path he would take but when he was injured he decided to move in the direction of his love of cooking. After leaving Mexico he moved to Chicago where he began learning to cook all types of cuisine from Italian, Persian, French, Chocolatier, ice sculpturing and more. Eventually he moved his family to Franklin then later to Spring Hill. Carlos was the Executive Chef who lead the opening and launching of the fabulous Homestead Manor and he has been a prominent culinary figure in other fine eateries owned by A. Marshall Family Foods.
The Garcia’s have lived in Spring Hill for 12 years and culinary skills run in the entire family! His wife is a pastry chef and his two daughters ages 19 and 26 are well skilled in the kitchen. His youngest daughter Alma, who graduated from Summit High School and went through their culinary program is now attending the Culinary Institute of America. In fact, the entire enterprise for selling the tamales at the farmer’s market is to raise funds to help pay for Alma’s schooling so she can carry on her family tradition and cooking craft.
You can purchase the Garcia’s tamales weekly on Wednesday from 10-2 pm at the Thompson’s Station Farmers Market and they will take special orders and orders for Christmas!
